Here’s how it works.
At the core of Agape Sticks is love, illustrated by an arrow. Agape is sacrificial love, an unconditional commitment to someone. This love-arrow points to where the commitment is. Whoever has this arrow pointed to them is benefiting from the relationship.
We illustrate people as stick figures, each of whom has NEED. The truth is, nobody is self-sufficient apart from others. Even Adam and Eve, whom God created without sin, were not self-sufficient, but were dependent on the garden.
The power of Agape Sticks is the relationship between the Agape arrow and human NEED.
Meet Joe.
Joe’s Agape arrow is pointed away from himself. He chooses to be committed to the other person by being selfless. That person benefits from the relationship by receiving Joe’s love. By loving the other person, Joe is able to provide for that person’s NEED.
Meet Mike.
Mike’s Agape arrow is pointed back to himself. He chooses to be committed to himself rather than the other person. Sometimes he excludes people from his love entirely. Other times he wraps people into his love, but he’s not really committed to them. He’s only committed to benefiting himself. Whether left out or involved in Mike’s self-love, the other person is left in NEED.
Everyone has an arrow.
